The rush to the cloud

08 July 2011

More and more MFP manufacturers are turning to Cloud computing services.

Scanning directly to services like Google Docs or Microsoft's SharePoint Online is already possible with Canon, thanks to the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Cloud Connect feature.  Ricoh's App2Me widgets allow scanning directly from the MFP to Google Docs or EverNote.

Sharp and Toshiba are releasing similar functions, and on-one doubts that the other manufacturers will follow suit.

The advantage of storing scanned documents on cloud-based platforms is that they can be accessed anywhere, anytime from a computer, smartphone or tablet.

On-line services also facilitate information sharing.  For companies which want to share information with their mobile teams, the speed and low cost of features offering scanning direct to the Coud are major advantages.
