OKI quits American markets

08 September 2020

The Japanese manufacturer has announced the end of its activities on the American continent by March 2021.

The manufacturer has just announced that it is giving up distributing its machines throughout the American continent (United States, Canada, Central America and South America) as of March 31, 2021.  A reorganization of OKI's global business strategy was already initiated this year, but the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated decision-making.

A repositioning plan towards more high value-added service provision and fewer standard sales was announced in early 2020 and was due to be completed within three years. But the economic slowdown linked to Covid has pushed OKI to revise its ambitions downwards: declining sales, production delays, logistical difficulties ...  An evaluation carried out by both the headquarters teams and those based in America have driven in the last nail.

The manufacturer will nevertheless ensure the supply of parts and consumables, and the delivery of services linked to warranties - and they will honor orders in progress: "I would like to reassure our resellers, partners and end customers that OKI is committed to continuing to supply the consumables, parts and service necessary to keep our printers operational for years to come,” said Sergio Horikawa, President of OKI Data Americas, Inc.

This decision should not impact the commercial strategies of other OKI subsidiaries on the American continent or in Europe and Asia.
