Fuji Xerox announced last week the new Color 1000i will be launched in Japan in February 2015.
Although the productivity and the supported paper weights will be the same as the Color 1000 it's replacing (100 ppm onto A4, 350 gsm), the Color 1000i digital press does represent a first in the industry: it will be able to print with gold and silver toner! The Kodak NEXPRESS platform can run gold, but the Fuji Xerox Color 1000i will be the first to be able to print in both metallic gold and metallic silver.
Not at the same time though. The press will be able to house either gold or silver toner as its fifth color. Clear toner is already supported by the Color 1000, and still will be on the 1000i.
Printshops with such a machine will be able to print short series of high-value or VDP jobs: small runs of magazines, book covers, postcards, business cards, invitations, greetings cards - and direct marketing materials.
